Which Vaccines Does My Pet Need?
Cat and dog vaccinations are not a one-size-fits-all solution. We recommend and administer vaccines based on what your pet needs personally to stay protected from disease threats. To give your pet the appropriate vaccinations, we need to see them in person for an exam and a discussion about their lifestyle, environment, health history, and other crucial factors.
Still, we do carry essential “core” vaccines for dogs and cats, and a variety of non-core vaccines recommended based on individual lifestyle.
When Should My Puppy or Kitten Start Their Booster Shots?
Puppies and kittens receive protective antibodies from their mother while nursing. However, as they are weaned, these antibodies fade, leaving them vulnerable to infection. At Partners Animal Hospital Tampa, we recommend beginning your pet’s first round of booster shots around 6-8 weeks old.
To reduce vaccine reaction risks, we spread out the individual boosters in a vaccine series to about every 3-4 weeks. This gives your puppy or kitten time to absorb the vaccine and build up their immunity gradually.
